Half of Masterchef Canada's top 10 competitors hail from B.C.

There's a 50 percent chance that a home cook from British Columbia will scoop up Masterchef Canada's $100,000 cash prize.

That's because B.C. cooks make up half of the top 10 competitors.

As revealed in the March 29th episode, the cooks from B.C. that made the cut include:

      • recording artist Cody Karey (Vancouver, originally from Fort Saint James)

      • financial advisor (and former pro football player) Jon Hameister-Ries (Vancouver, originally from Edmonton, Alberta)

      • concrete contractor David Jorge (Surrey)

      • dental hygienist Jennifer Innis (Vernon, originally from Drayton Valley, Alberta)

      • retail clerk Tammy Wood (Agassiz, originally from Chilliwack)

In the March 29th episode, Hameister-Ries placed in the bottom two of the elimination challenge (which involved unusual food combinations) due to poor time management. However, the judges—Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile—chose Kristen Dwyer of Conception Bay South, Newfoundland, to be eliminated.

The top 10 move on to the next episode, to be aired on Sunday (April 5, 7 p.m. on CTV), in which they will be challenged to cater a French-inspired Harbour Cruise wedding that will require them to make canapés, appetizers, and main dishes. The losing team will be put to the test in making a technique-driven French dessert.

Among the previous cooks who were eliminated was public relations officer Debra Pangestu from Richmond.
