George Ganger was taking a writing class across the street at South Hill Education Centre when he noticed that a truck transporting herring had spilled some of its load onto the street below.

“I did what anyone would do, I called 9-1-1 and came down to direct traffic. Everyone was just driving right through it,” he said.

Ganger waited until police arrived and passed along the license plate number of the truck responsible for the spill to an officer.
