      Insite anniversary  Canada's only legal supervised-injection site, Insite, is celebrating its 10th birthday in the Downtown Eastside after more than two million visits and not a single overdose death. 

      Pickton victim's remains violated  CBC News has reported that the family of Marnie Frey has discovered broken bones in the urn carrying her ashes. Her remains were found on Robert Pickton's Port Coquitlam farm.

      City gets boost from UBCM  The Union of B.C. Municipalities has voted in favour of a resolution calling for Vancouver to set its own rules around campaign-finance rules. Now, it's up to the provincial government to decide if it wants to grant this power to the city.

      B.C. NDP race hats up  Some members of the B.C. NDP caucus have given subtle indications that they are interested in seeking the party leadership after Adrian Dix announced that he'll step down next year.

      Campaign chief admits errors  Brian Topp, who managed the B.C. NDP election campaign, has written a document—obtained by the Vancouver Sun—saying it was a "mistake" for the party not to take the B.C. Liberals to task as they launched "arguably libellous" attacks on NDP Leader Adrian Dix.

      Teen accused of distributing child porn  A 16-year-old girl is being tried in Victoria in connection with allegedly texting photos of her boyfriend's former girlfriend.

      iPhone lineups  Customers were waiting outside the downtown Apple store early this morning waiting for release of the new 5S and 5C iPhones. Apple shares were up slightly in morning trading.

      Russians storm Greenpeace vessel  Greenpeace has claimed that gun- and knife-wielding Russian commandos stormed their vessel, Arctic Sunrise, which is in the Arctic protesting drilling by the Russian energy giant Gazprom. Greenpeace alleges that the Russian Coast Guard fired 11 warning shots over the boat before the raid.

      Alberta refinery groundbreaking  Officials broke ground on the $5.7-billion Sturgeon diesel-producing refinery, which is being built near Edmonton. It's the first North American refinery to be constructed since the mid 1980s.

      Syria turns over weapons info  The government of Bashar al-Assad has begun offering data about its chemical-weapons stockpile under a deal reached between the United States and Russia.

      NBA player surrenders  Guard DeAndre Liggins has turned himself in after being charged with seven criminal offences. This came after he allegedly punched his girlfriend numerous times and threw an Xbox at her in Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City Thunder put Liggins on waivers after the charges were laid.

      Greenpeace messing with the Russians is that organization's Timmy Treadwell moment. The seal huggers are lucky they weren't slaughtered like innocent Chechen children at the hands of Putin's security forces. There is no way Greenpeace tries another stunt like this one against Russian assets.
