      VAISAKHI

      South Vancouver comes alive with one of the city's most festive street parties and colourful parades. The annual Vaisakhi celebration features free food made in people's homes to celebrate the spring harvest. The parade, which commemorates the founding of the Khalsa, starts at 11 a.m. at the Ross Street Temple (8000 Ross Street) before travelling west along Southeast Marine Drive, north up Main Street to East 49th Avenue, then east to Fraser Street, south to East 57th Aveue, and east along Ross Street back to the temple. 

      CONCERTS

      All-women Led Zeppelin tribute band Zepparella (pictured above) coheadlines with all-women AC/DC tribute band Hell's Belles at the Commodore Ballroom.

      Celtic-punk band the Real McKenzies takes the stage with guests the Isotopes at the Rickshaw Theatre.

      Los Angeles-based psychedelic-rock band Wand tours in support of debut release Ganglion Reef at the Cobalt.

      The Georgia Straight presents local all-star AC/DC tribute band Bon Red, with guests La Chinga and Man the Wolf, at Pat's Pub & Brewhouse.

      The Vancouver Folk Festival presents 15-piece Balkan-klezmer ensemble the Lemon Bucket Orkestra at the Fox Cabaret.

      Caravan World Rhythms presents Sahara Nasr and the Blue Lotus Trio at the Bridge & Enrich Lives Society.

      American musician, composer, actor, director, writer, and bluesman Guy Davis headlines at the St. James Hall.

      Berlin-based artist Hunee performs with Vancouver's D. Dee and Calgary’s Lorne B at the Fox Cabaret.

      The Spark It Forward Race supports Dress for Success Vancouver, a community empowering women into the workforce. Held at Coopers Park.

      Kegs for Kancer raises money for Vancouver resident Pat Placzek's leukemia treatment. Held at ONLOK Supply Co.
