On April 26, 7 pm, Mexican-American songstress Lila Downs returns to the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts (6265 Crescent, UBC).

The GRAMMY Award-winning musician, known for songs that meld Latin beats with a folk-rock sound, will be performing material from her latest album Balas y Chocolate.

For this release, Downs drew inspiration from the Day of the Dead, the Mexican national holiday that honours the memory of loved ones and ushers their spirits into the afterlife.

Downs is known for performing at the 2013 Latino Inaugural Ball for President Barack Obama and the 2003 Academy Awards.
