Vancouver's 4/20 festivities branch out beyond the art gallery

With more than 20,000 people expected to gather at the Vancouver Art Gallery at 4:20 p.m. today, you might think there is only one place to be for the city’s annual marijuana festival.

No doubt that’s where the largest crowd will assemble. But 750 Hornby Street isn’t the only stop supporters of the legalization movement can make this sunny afternoon. Vancouver is a pretty pot-friendly town, and plenty of shops are hosting mini 4/20 events of their own.

Bella Gelateria, for example, is serving a special batch of hemp gelato. That’s available at its two locations at 1001 West Cordova Street in Yaletown and at 1089 Marinaside Crescent in Coal Harbour. “Hemp gelato w/hemp milk, hemp seeds. + some chocolate brownie pieces,” reads a message on Twitter. “4 the munchies…avail Monday.”

One of Vancouver’s oldest suppliers of smoking accessories, Puff Pipes, is running a one-day sale at all four of its locations.

And later in the evening, New Amsterdam Cafe at 301 West Hastings Street is hosting a “Baked in B.C.” 4/20 after party beginning at 5:30 p.m.
