Remember the March 4 container fire at Port Metro Vancouver that sent a nasty plume of smoke into East Van and beyond?

Vancouver's fire department says it was an accident.

"Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services has concluded after a thorough and detailed investigation, that the cause of the fire that broke out just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4th 2015, was accidental in nature and it is undetermined if the fire was a result of product, packaging, or handling failure within the secured container. The resulting fire sent up a large plume of toxic smoke that triggered a partial evacuation of parts of downtown and East Vancouver. The container of trichloroisocyanuric acid in the form of stabilized chlorine ‘pool pucks’ that caught fire had come from China, and was waiting to be loaded onto a train bound for Eastern Canada," a media advisory states.

A month later, on April 8, Port Metro Vancouver would find itself dealing with an oil spill from the MV Marathassa in English Bay.
