The president of the National Front in France, Marine Le Pen, is loathed by progressive French citizens for her hard right-wing positions.

Whereas her father and former National Front leader Jean-Marie proposed banning immigration, she says that she ants to sharply curtail it.

Le Pen also wants a referendum across Europe to outlaw same-sex marriage. In addition, the 2012 National Front presidential candidate has called for a referendum to bring back the death penalty in France.

This helps explain why the sextremist feminist group Femen decided to crash Le Pen's party today when she delivered her May Day address in the Opera district of Paris.

Topless Femen protesters stood on a balcony with the slogans "Heil Le Pen" and "Stop Fascism" emblazoned across their bare breasts.

They also gave the Nazi salute to the crowd before being arrested.

Le Pen's father, who left politics in 2011, was popular with white supremacists and was convicted several times for inciting hatred against minorities.

One of his most provocative statements came in 1987: "I'm not saying the gas chambers didn't exist. I haven't seen them myself. I haven't particularly studied the question. But I believe it's just a detail in the history of World War II."

Below, you can see what it takes to become a Femen activist.
