For those you who love wild B.C. spot prawns, this is the day you've all been waiting for.

The ninth annual Spot Prawn Festival takes place on May 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at False Creek Fishermen's Wharf, west of Granville Island.

Chefs who are members of the Chefs’ Table Society of British Columbia will serve up "fresh-from-the-boat spot prawns" at the mostly free, family-friendly event.

Presented by the society, wharf, and Pacific Prawn Fishermen's Association, the festival "gives attendees the opportunity to enjoy free entertainment, free activities for kids, and attend free cooking demonstrations from top local chefs, all while taking advantage of the chance to buy live, locally-sourced prawns directly from the dock", according to a news release.

Admission to the Spot Prawn Boil portion of the event costs $17.50.

That gets diners three spot prawns, side dishes, and bread, as well as access to the drink tent for samples from Salt Spring Coffee, R&B Brewing (recently taken over by Howe Sound Brewing), and Summerhill Pyramid Winery.

The fest marks the start of the B.C. spot prawn season.
