One Direction wants to give you Head

I can't decide if I want this to be hoax or not.

According to the website The Studio Exec, the Straight's all-time favourite boy band One Direction has decided to remake the monumentally bizarre 1968 Monkees film, Head.

Having helmed (much to everyone's puzzlement) 2013's 1D tour film, This Is Us, director Morgan Spurlock has veered off-road yet again, telling the website:

"The Monkees’ Head is one of the most subversive music films ever made. At the height of their fame the Monkees not only bit the hand that fed them, they tore it off at the shoulder. The lads and I talked about doing a film again because we enjoyed the first one so much but we all agreed we didn’t want to do another documentary or concert movie and so this film came up in our discussions and we decided it would be a perfect fit."

Assuming any of this is real, Spurlock isn't messing around when he praises the original film's subversive qualities.

Scripted by Jack Nicholson and featuring a slew of cameos seemingly designed to terrify anyone under the age of 14—Frank Zappa shows up, as does sleaze-kitten Carol Doda, a deeply pissed-off looking Sonny Liston, and high-test super-weirdo Timothy Carey—Head ruined the Pre-Fab Four when it was released.

And ruin seems to be exactly what the increasingly unhappy Monkees wanted. When Head isn't reminding its barely adolescent viewers that the US was fighting a pointless and much despised war, it's lecturing them on their own exploitation. Director Bob Rafelson's next project would be Five Easy Pieces, although I doubt his ensuing and much decorated career was too closely observed by the Davy Jones fanclub.

In light of all this, and bearing in mind that the US (and Britain) are still engaged in a number of pointless and much despised wars, and that the machinery behind draining kids of their parents' money has only become much slicker, getting some Head from One Direction could turn out to be well worth your dollar.

Meanwhile, here are the Monkees committing suicide in the opening scene of their only feature film.

      NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

First generation Monkees fan here. This is beyond a stupid idea. This movie is tailored for The Monkees story. Although the 4 group members themselves received no writing credit, it's a known fact that they were involved in contributing to the ideas the movie represented. Let One Direction cover songs from the movie ir come up with their own deconstruction psychedelic freakout of a film. This one doesn't fit a 21st century "boy band" of which description doesn't fit The Monkees.

Hi edith, any relation to Frank? I agree, but I'd be down with a 1D version of "Circle Sky".

Is that Bela Lugosi in the video? Seeing how he was a morphine and methadone addict the last decade of his life...it fits.

I think it's a great idea, but I think Penelope Spheeris should make it.

I believe I came to Head through a druggy discovery: Bongwater (featuring actress Ann Magnuson, who you've seen David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve seduce, murder and eat in The Hunger) were the ones to turn me on to "The Porpoise Song," I believe on a 7" single I bought off Ty Scammell... it's a pretty sincere but fun take on the original, no? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fp9BprktwY

Yeah, not bad at all. Head has a killer soundtrack. Whatever you think of the band, or the "band", or the film, every track's a winner.

      A) The Studio Exec is a satire site.
      B) The all-four suicide scene is at the END of the movie; only Micky jumps at the opening.
