AMC announced today (May 11) that it has begun production on a new series, Fear the Walking Dead, in Vancouver.

Filming will also take place in Los Angeles.

The companion series will serve as a prequel to the hit zombie series The Walking Dead, set in a more dangerous, rapidly changing time. The disintegration of civilization will be revealed from the perspective of a dysfunctional family.

The series, which will consist of six one-hour episodes, will star Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Fank Dillane, and Alycia Debnam-Carey.

The series will premiere on AMC this summer but a specific release date has yet to be announced. A second season has already been slated for 2016.
