Elephants are known to be smart beings with incredible memories. But are they clever enough to consciously take their own selfies?

White Rock's Christian LeBlanc, a 22-year-old student who had been studying in a UBC program in Bangkok, was traveling around Koh Phangan, an island in Thailand, where he was feeding bananas to some elephants.

According to LeBlanc, one of the pachyderms grabbed LeBlanc's GoPro camera and took a picture with its own natural selfie stick: its trunk.

The photo has since gone viral and has been covered by numerous news outlets around the world.

It's apparently the world's first "elphie". Do they need to start making ePhones for elephants?

But just imagine what will happen when octopi figure out to take selfies.
