Poetry coming to Vancouver parks?

One of the best things about riding transit in Vancouver is Poetry in Transit.

You know, those poems on the bus that run in place of revenue-generating ads.

Currently, you might be enjoying poems by Renée Sarojini Saklikar, Laisha Rosnau, and Jen Currin.

Now what does this have to do with anything?

Poetry could be coming to parks in Vancouver.

Vision Vancouver park board commish Catherine Evans has a motion on notice on the agenda for the board's meeting on Monday (May 25).

It calls for park staff to "work with staff from the Vancouver Public Library on a pilot program to bring poetry to Vancouver’s parks in 2015 and to explore longer term options for a broader Poetry in Parks program to be launched in 2016".

      Sound good?

      Quick, somebody write a haiku.

It's a great idea! Poetry writing, reading, reciting, performing etc with picnic and street food available, maybe even alcohol for regular events in the parks! I would love to be part of it and return to Vancouver.
