      From the motivating pop-rock of singer-activist Bif Naked (above) to the classical stylings of Pro Nova Ensemble, there's plenty going on in Metro Vancouver this weekend.

      TODAY, MAY 29

      BIF: the Georgia Straight presents local rocker and activist Bif Naked at the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Cobra Ramone, Wett Stilettos, the Living, the Lovers Cabaret, Ginger Avenue, Audrey Siegl, Rahel Bellydance, the Kingsgate Chorus, and Cam Pipes from 3 Inches of Blood.

      BARR: Montreal folk quartet the Barr Brothers (above) plays the Imperial, touring in support of latest album Sleeping Operator, with guests Tavis E. Triance & The Natural Way.

      BRITS: British rockers Girlschool play Venue, with guests Crucified Barbara, Old James, and Velvet Black.

      BREWSKI: Vancouver Craft Beer Week kicks off, with more than 100 breweries taking part in the 10-day celebration of the beauty of beer.

      BUZZ: Medical Marijuana 2015 at the Pan Pacific Hotel covers both the legal issues and practical considerations surrounding the new and emerging status of medical marijuana in Canada.

      BRAWL: All Star Wrestling matches at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds include Short Sleeve Sampson vs. Little Prince Akeem, Bambi Hall (above) vs. Annie Richards, and Hurricane Adam Ryder vs. Alexander Hammerstone.

      BRILLIANT: Jun Märkl conducts violinist Karen Gomyo and the Vancouver Symphony in a program of music by Prokofiev, Strauss, and Mendelssohn at Chan Centre.

      BEARS: the Teddy Bears Music Picnic at the Orpheum features Lisa & Linda (above) and the VSO in a kid-friendly exploration of the music of Claude Debussy.

      BOOKDavid Suzuki discusses his new book Letters to My Grandchildren, in which he explores life's deepest questions and offers up wisdom for future generations. Event takes place at UBC's Old Auditorium.

      SATURDAY, MAY 30

      HEAVY: Finnish metal band Apocalyptica (above) plays the Commodore, performing on its Shadowmaker tour, with guests Art of Dying.

      HORROR: Australian psychedelic-dance band Miami Horror plays the Electric Owl, touring in support of latest release All Possible Futures.

      HAIDA: traditional Haida music by Terri-Lynn Willams-Davidson at Gordon Smith Gallery, with guests Bill Henderson and Claire Lawrence.

      HOP: Philadelphia indie-rock band Hop Along (above) plays the Cobalt, performing tunes from new album Painted Shut, with guests Field Mouse and Lithuania.

      HOPE: the Canadian Women’s Foundation presents a one-hour workout at Robson Square to raise hope for women who have experienced violence.

      HELP: Soul 2 Soul Benefit Concert at Redemption Church features blues-funk artists Tracy Moar and Darlene Ketchum, with proceeds to support midwives in Uganda and Nepal.

      SUNDAY, MAY 31

      PURPLE: Hard-rockers Whitesnake (above), featuring vocalist David Coverdale, play Hard Rock Casino Vancouver. The concert features songs Coverdale performed as the frontman for Deep Purple.

      POETIC: Franci Louann hosts readings at New West's Heritage Grill by poets Natasha Boskic, Bonnie Nish, and David O'Meara.

      PEACEthe Vancouver Peace Choir, the Eric Hamber Secondary Chamber Choir, and the New Westminster Secondary Chamber Choir perform choral pieces at Ryerson United Church.

      PLAYLAND: annual attraction features new ride the Beast (above), as well fairway games, shooting gallery, climbing wall, haunted mansion, adventure golf, and the Wooden Roller Coaster.

      PRO NOVA: performances by Pro Nova Ensemble (above) of Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 18 No. 2, Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 8 Op. 110, and Brahms's Piano Quintet. Concert takes place at North Van's Mount Seymour United Church.

      POP AND OPERA: an evening of pop and opera fusion at Maple Ridge Alliance Church with classical crossover group Vivace, featuring pianist Trevor Hoffmann.

      PARAMOUNT: annual family-friendly Childrun (above) at Queen Elizabeth Park raises funds for childhood cancer research and treatment areas at B.C. Children’s Hospital. Also on Sunday, the Walk for Rape Relief takes place at Ceperly Park. And the Ride to Live motorcycle ride to fight prostate cancer starts at Fraser Downs Racetrack in Surrey.
