U.S. secretary of state John Kerry is reportedly in a Geneva hospital after breaking his right femur in a cycling accident.

The 71-year-old former senator was riding in Scionzier, France.

According to a CNN story, Kerry is expected to return to Boston this evening where he can be seen by a surgeon who previously operated on his hip.

Kerry travelled to Geneva this weekend with U.S. secretary of energy Ernest Monitz to meet Iran's foreign minister, Mohammed Javad Zarif.

He's often been photographed cycling in the past.
