While news outlets and social media turn attention to Caitlyn Jenner on the cover of Vanity Fair, raising awareness of transgender women, a Canadian photo exhibit is drawing attention to the lives of trans men.

Montreal photographer Jean-François Bouchard focused his lens on transgender men in his latest exhibition, Transpose.

Transpose features portraits of shirtless transgender men.

Bouchard conducted research for the project over three years and he emphasized that he didn't want the portraits to be shocking, sexual or sensationalized. Instead, he was interested in conveying their stories and complexities while simultaneously questioning viewers' stereotypes and preconceptions of transgender people.

The classically shot, human-sized portraits first exhibited in Montreal from March to May at Arsenal Gallery, and are now showing at Arsenal Toronto until August 15.
