Canucks still on the outs as Edmonton Oilers expected to choose Connor McDavid in NHL entry draft

The safest sporting bet in the world is that the Edmonton Oilers will choose the 6'1" centre for the Erie Otters, Connor McDavid, in today's NHL entry draft today.

Edmonton Oilers won the lottery in April to make the first pick. McDavid posted 120 points in 47 regular-season games in the Ontario Hockey League and led the Canadian juniors to a world championship.

He's been called the top hockey prospect since Sidney Crosby was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2005.

Below, you can see a McDavid highlight reel.

Connor McDavid is already a household name before being drafted.

Meanwhile, the Canucks have not asked any players to waive no-trade clauses. And they've been unable to deal back-up goalie Eddie Lack or the third goalie, Jacob Markstrom, who spent most of the season in Utica.

It means that as of this morning, the Vancouver Canucks have the 23rd pick in the first round and no picks in rounds two and three.

You can hear general manager Jim Benning's thoughts about the draft in the video below, which was shot several days ago.

Jim Benning spoke earlier this month about his plans for the draft.
