From July 6 to August 8, the Ensemble Theatre Festival takes over the Jericho Arts Centre (1675 Discovery).

Presented by the Ensemble Theatre Company, this year the repertory-theatre festival has a special focus on tackling taboos, as exeplified by Lillian Hellman's The Children's Hour, Peter Morgan's Frost/Nixon, and John Ford's 'Tis a Pity She's a Whore.

Ranging from a reimagined Jacobean tragedy to a dramatization of the 1977 interview between talk-show host David Frost and disgraced former president Richard Nixon, this year's plays will allow audiences to confront controversial issues conveyed with contemporary sensibilities.

Other event highlights include a cabaret featuring cast members and three outdoor brunches with readings and live music.

Tickets for the Ensemble Theatre Festival range from $10 to 65 and can be bought online in advance.

saw Frost Nixon last night and was very impressed. Was expecting something dry but instead got an animated, interesting take on the subject. Michael Roberts as Nixon is outstanding. He captures the essence of the man perfectly, his posture, mannerisms and style of speech were spot on. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.
