Nobel committee had to go looking for Alice Munro
As the history of writing goes, the short story is a lot older than the tweet. It seems newly minted Nobel laureate Alice Munro hasn’t put nearly as much time into mastering the second as she has into the first.
The Nobel committee apparently had trouble tracking Munro down this morning to tell her that it had named her this year’s recipient of its hyper-prestigious prize for literature, leaving Munro herself among the few dozen people in the world who hadn’t already heard the big news.
She did finally get around to answering the Swedish-accented messages in her voice mail, though.
Since then, the waves of congratulation have continued to roll in for the revered author, including a tweet from fellow wordsmith Stephen Harper:
Opposition Leader Thomas Mulcair has also sent his best regards.
