The 35 food trucks are all fine and dandy. Same goes for the transformation of Minoru Park into a global village that includes an artisan marketplace, sporting events, and interactive cultural activities.

But what should really have you excited about the inaugural Richmond World Festival is the musical headliner.

Brooklyn DIY darlings Matt and Kim have been announced as the featured attraction at the fest, which takes September 5 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Minoru Park.

One of the most beloved acts in indie rock, the duo has gone from playing original-hipster Brooklyn house parties to ripping up stages at Coachella, Lollapalooza, and, just last month, the Pemberton Musical Festival.

Singer-keyboardist Matt Johnson and perpetually smiling drummer Kim Schifino have also proven always up for a good food fight and prone to running around public areas like Times Square naked (see video below). That makes their announcement as the main YVR Main Stage attraction doubly exciting because, well, think of the endless possibilities.

The Richmond World Festival will also offer up Lower Mainland acts such as Roku Shichi Taiko, as well as the chance to win a trip for two to one of a half-dozen six Asian destinations, this courtesy of the Vancouver International Airport.
