Greenpeace activists are staging one of their trademark protests at Kinder Morgan's Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby.

The environmental group says it's taking action today (October 16) in response to the Stephen Harper government's support for new and expanded tar-sands pipelines. Kinder Morgan has plans to almost triple the capacity of its Trans Mountain pipeline, which carries tar-sands oil from Edmonton to Burnaby.

According to Greenpeace, 16 activists are involved in the protest. Two of them have locked themselves to an oil pump, while others have been painting "Stop the Tar Sands" on a storage tank.

“We’re here to remind Prime Minister Harper and Premier Clark that British Columbians do not want tar sands pipelines and hundreds of super tankers threatening B.C.’s pristine coast,” Mike Hudema, a climate and energy campaigner for Greenpeace Canada, said in a news release.

Greenpeace provided the following photos of the protest.
