The 16th annual Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival is about to begin at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby.

This year's event is headlined by the Sheepdogs, who are scheduled to take the main stage at 8:30 p.m.

They came together in Saskatoon in 2006 and burst to prominence when Rolling Stone chose to put them on the cover in 2011 in a competition with 15 other bands.

That was followed up by three Juno Awards, including Rock Album of the Year, in 2012.

They're preceded on the main stage by Lee Fields and the Expressions at 6:45 p.m., Ruthie Foster at 5:30 p.m., Nathan & The Zydeco Cha-Chas at 4 p.m., the Eagle Rock Gospel Singers at 2:30 p.m., and Harpdog Brown at 1:05 p.m.

There are two other stages. On the Westwood, Jim Byrnes and the Sojourners will wrap things up at 4:45 p.m. They're preceded by Terra Lightfoot at 3:15 p.m. and Sibel Thrasher at 1:45 p.m.

Over on the Garden Stage, the Devon Cuddy Band is the final performer at 4:45. Before then will be Jesse Roper at 3:15 p.m. and Colleen Rennison at 1:45 p.m.

Set times are subject to change.
