Vancouver Evil Genius Kurtis Ling part of team that won $6.6 million in video game tournament

      There's big money in video-game competitions.

      No one  knows this better today than former UBC student Kurtis Ling, whose five-member team reportedly won $6.6 million at the International Dota 2 Championships.

      The total prize pool was $18,416,970, according to the website.

      Ling, 23, also came first in the Dota 2 Asia Championship 2015 and had second-place finishes in The Summit 3 and ESL One Frankfurt 2015 events.

      According to the Evil Geniuses website, he uses his prize money "to take duet singing classes" for his post-Dota career.

      The Ubyssey student newspaper reported in March that Ling had made $258,000 as a professional video-game player at that point.
