The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors Gait to the Spirit 2013

      Mandala Arts and Culture presents the fourth annual Gait to the Spirit festival, celebrating classical Indian dance at the Scotiabank Dance Centre (677 Davie Street) from October 18 to 21.

      This year’s festival will feature one of India’s top odissi dancers, Sujata Mohapatra, the daughter-in-law of legendary odissi dancer Kelucharan Mohapatra. Along with a performance, Sujata Mohapatra will also be teaching an odissi master class.

      Also on the program is a bharata natyam double-bill featuring Navia Natarajan and Bhavajan Kumar, as well as North Indian kathak dancers Parul Gupta and Nritya Manjari Kathak Dancers.

      Tickets to festival performances are $22 to $25 for single nights or $44 for both nights. The master class with Sujata Mohapatra is $30. Tickets are available by phone at 604-737-8858 or at Banyen Books & Sound (3608 West 4th Avenue).
