Mission Hill Winery's Terrace Restaurant recognized in Zagat list
A restaurant at an Okanagan winery has gotten noticed by Zagat. Terrace Restaurant at Mission Hill Winery in Kelowna was recently included in a list of “8 Wineries with Fabulous Food” on the Google-owned restaurant review website.
“This stunning winery benefits not only from the design smarts of architect Tom Kundig, but also from the natural beauty that surrounds it. It’s only fitting that they offer Terrace, a seasonal restaurant under the care of chef Matthew Batey, which has a spectacular view of the vineyard and the lake,” New York-based writer and Zagat blogger Linnea Covington wrote about Mission Hill. “The lunch and dinner menu focuses on local products that Batey sources from farms nearby, and you can find dishes including a tasting of green Croft beets, free-range elk carpaccio, duck sourced from Yarrow Meadows and guaranteed Okanagan beef, served with gremolata and sieglinde potato. Each menu item comes with two wine pairing suggestions.”
The Zagat list is comprised mainly of U.S.-based wineries. Only two international wineries made the cut—B.C.’s Mission Hill and Ferrari Winery in Trento, Italy.
Two of the six U.S. wineries are located in Napa Valley, California. Covington includes Étoile restaurant at Domaine Chandon, which is located in Yountville and known for sparkling wines, and Round Pond Estate in Rutherford, which produces vinegars and olive oils in addition to wines, to her list.
The remaining four winery restaurants include Palladio Restaurant at Barboursville Vineyards in Virginia, Red Newt Bistro at Red Newt Cellars Winery in New York, Taverna Tagaris at Tagaris Winery in Washington, and the restaurant at King Estate Winery in Oregon.
