There's still plenty of time to participate in "Summer of Learning", which continues in Vancouver until August 31.

"The Summer of Learning is a self-guided learning experience with support from the Vancouver Public Library and the various program partners," the VPL's chief librarian, Sandra Singh, told the Straight by phone. "What we put together is a learning journal that invites resident and participants to reflect on the learning that they do throughout their day and throughout the summer."

The initiative is backed by public educational institutions, the City of Vancouver, Mozilla Foundation, and Ashoka Canada. There are numerous events listed on the Vancouver Learning City website.

Vancouverites are being encouraged to visit their local library branch to pick up a "learning journal".

"From our partners across the city, we have some pretty exciting prizes—for example, a behind-the-scenes tour for two that was donated by Vancouver Opera," Singh said.

Other goodies include concert tickets and family passes to the Vancouver Police Museum and Beaty Biodiversity Museum. There are also opportunities to go on a tour highlighting Vancouver's Jewish history and to visit the back stage of the Orpheum Theatre and UBC's farm.

"We want to highlight that Vancouver has so many great opportunities to offer our residents," Singh stated.
