The New York Daily News has reported that Morgan Freeman's granddaughter did not survive an early-morning knife attack in New York.

It allegedly came at the hands of her deranged boyfriend.

Edena Hines, 33, was reportedly found around 3 a.m. lying in the middle of West 162nd Street with stab wounds in the chest.

A witness told the paper that he saw a man shouting: "Get out devils! I cast you out Devils in the name of Jesus Christ!"

Freeman subsequently issued a statement saying that the world will never know his granddaughter's artistry and talent.

"I want to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love and support my family has received regarding the tragic and senseless passing of my granddaughter Edena Hines," Freeman wrote on Facebook. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Morgan Freeman attended the NCAAP awards with his granddaughter Edena Hines in 1998.
