      FRIDAY, AUGUST 21

      MOCHRIE: Canadian improvisor Colin Mochrie (above) teams up with Vancouver TheatreSports League members for the first of two nights at the Improv Centre. Proceeds support the Colin Mochrie Sponsorship Fund and VTSL's outreach programs.

      MULDER: American actor and singer-songwriter David Duchovny of The X-Files fame performs songs from debut album Hell or Highwater at the first of two nights at Alexander in Gastown. Meet 'n' greet tickets available.

      MERCATO: shop for fresh fruit and vegetables, handmade products from local artisans, and food prepared by Il Centro’s chef at the Italian Cultural Centre. The Italian Market includes live music and kids' activities.

      MONSTERS: meet VFX animators from the team that worked on Jurassic World and explore the Ultimate Dinosaurs exhibit (above) in an adults-only atmosphere at Science World.

      MINDPOWER: a night of culture, cuisine, and creativity at Alliance Française raises money for Education Is Power, which makes high-school and university education more accessible to underprivileged youth in Kenya and Tanzania.

      SATURDAY, AUGUST 22

      BAD BOYS: the Georgia Straight presents Jamaican reggae group Inner Circle (above) performing at Imperial on its Bad Boys of Reggae tour, with guests East Van All Stars, Tank Gyal, and LDG the Madd Mixer.

      BARBECUE: the Uncommon Summer Barbecue at Uncommon Cafe feature ribs, sausage, sides, smoked tofu, Steam Whistle beer, and East Van ciders.

      BOOGIE 'n' BLUES: Canadian blues-rocker Colin James (above) performs at the PNE as part of the Summer Night Concerts series. Free with gate admission; reserved seats available.

      BREW: explore films about coffee at the Rio Theatre with screenings of short films and features, including A Small Section of the World, Aroma of Heaven, and Caffeinated (above).

      BIG: the Georgia Straight presents Swedish indie-folk singer-guitarist The Tallest Man on Earth at the Orpheum, touring in support of latest album Dark Bird Is Home.

      BOATS: the Steveston Dragon Boat Festival at Britannia Heritage Shipyards features live entertainment, kids' arts and crafts, vendors, food trucks, and dragon-boat races.

      BEARS: kids can bring their teddy bears to Steveston Park for a picnic that includes games, teddy bear medical checkups, paw readings, and face painting.

      SUNDAY, AUGUST 23

      COUNTRY: American country artist Clint Black (above) performs at the PNE as part of the Summer Night Concerts series. Free with gate admission; reserved seats available.

      CORE: American metalcore band Mutoid Man plays Venue, with guests Wild Throne and He Whose Ox Is Gored.

      CLASSIC: Lee Aaron (above) and Headpins perform at the PNE as part of the Mosaic Music Series. Free with PNE admission.

      CULINARY: Garlic Festival at Richmond's Terra Nova Rural Park features food from local restaurants, an expanded garlic market, family-themed interactive cooking demos, kids' activities, and a mad-dash cooking competition.

      CURVACEOUS: Kitty Nights presents an evening of burlesque at the Biltmore featuring Burgundy Brixx (above), Sasparilla Foxx, Audrey Marx, and Faye Havoc.
