Jon Bon Jovi steps up for Vancouver with Rogers Arena show

Move over, Dave Grohl—you've got a serious contender for your title as the nicest guy in rock 'n' roll.

Up until today, "clusterfuck" was perhaps the best way to describe Jon Bon Jovi's summer of 2015 relationship with Vancouver. This past week has brought the cancellation of his headlining concert at Stanley Park, the singer's management pulling the plug after deeming the promoter unprepared for the show.

News that the promoter, Paper Rain Performance, has now declared bankruptcy left a lot of Vancouverites holding tickets for a show that never happened.

This morning, however, Bon Jovi's management announced that tickets purchased for the Stanley Park event will be honoured at Rogers Arena this Saturday (August 22).

In a statement, manager Paul Korzilius said: "Ever since we were forced to announce the cancellation of Stanley Park, Paper Rain Performances has perpetuated confusion and misinformation. Through it all, it has been Jon’s main concern that he find a way to make good on that promoter’s failed attempt to put on the show. Finally, the stage is set and we can confidently announce that all proper pieces are in place for a great show. Vancouver is a special city for Jon, who recorded three albums and has given countless performances here. The task of relocating could not have been possible without Rogers Arena’s support. We also commend our partners, Tourism Vancouver and Tickets Tonight, for their quick, diligent work. As we said on Monday, Jon has always been willing, able and excited to perform on Saturday – now it’s real."

Those who purchased tickets for the Stanley Park show are asked to bring them to Rogers Arena. Seating will be based on the ticket level purchased for Stanley Park. Tickets were priced between $39.95 and $595.

Rogers will open its doors at 6:30 with the show scheduled for 8 p.m. No additional tickets for the show will be sold.

After rumoured slow sales, the original Bon Jovi concert, scheduled for August 22 at Brockton Oval, was cancelled earlier this week.

The singer's management accused Paper Rain of failing to line up security. It was also alleged that the promoter failed to get proper permits for the event from the city.

What a fantastic development. It doesn't look like anyone is going to make money on this, and some, including Mr. Bon Jovi, will almost certainly lose money.

Affirms my faith in the redemptive power of music. Hey hey my my rock and roll will never die.

Well this is a sub-optimal outcome.

How the hell did JBJ get out of his Artist in Residence contract with NBC?

Aigh! Haters, huh? Why you can't like a nice sentiment? Bitter fuckers no doubt.

I've never given a hoot about Bon Jovi's music, in fact that kind of corporate pop/rock's always made me quail. But I got no problem loving the guy for this generous act.
