      CONCERTS

      The Georgia Straight presents Swedish indie-folk vocalist-guitarist the Tallest Man on Earth touring in support of latest release Dark Bird Is Home at the Orpheum Theatre.

      The Georgia Straight presents Jamaican reggae group Inner Circle performing on its Bad Boys of Reggae tour at the Imperial.

      Canadian hardcore-punk band Fucked Up performs with guests Doomsquad at the WISE Hall.

      Los Angeles R&B vocalist Miguel performs with guest Dorothy at the Commodore Ballroom.

      As part of the Mosaic Music Series, the Tourist Company and the Zolas take the stage at the PNE.

      West of Memphis, Bre McDaniel, and Fallbrigade perform at Cates Park as part of the Cates Park Concert Series.

      The Hippie Hootenanny features music by Audrey Siegl, Ajaye Jardine, Sarah Wheeler, EVK, Stone Poets, and Random Dander. Held at the Biltmore Cabaret.

      Alea Clark and Jeremiah Ackermann of Alea Rae, with guests the "W" Lovers and M. Lund, perform at Cafe Deux Soleils.

      As part of the PNE Summer Night Concerts series, Canadian blues-rock singer-songwriter Colin James (pictured above) performs at the PNE Amphitheatre.

      The Snailfest 2015 Kickoff Party features music by Sh-Shakes, Outside Dog, Jive Hand, the Wandering Halls, and the Great Speckled Fritillary. Held at the Rickshaw Theatre.

      Blues artists Ken Emerson, Gary Comeau, Rob Montgomery's INCOGNITO, and Nadine States perform at the Edgewater Casino.

       

      EVENTS ET CETERA

      The Steveston Dragon Boat Festival includes live entertainment, kids' arts and crafts, vendors, food trucks, and dragon-boat races. Held at Britannia Heritage Shipyard.

       

      FOOD AND DRINK

      The Uncommon Cafe hosts a bbq featuring ribs, sausage, sides, smoked tofu and veggie skewers, desserts, Steam Whistle beer, wine, and East Van ciders.

      One-day food-truck festival Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest features 70 food trucks and live entertainment. Held at downtown New Westminster.

       

      KIDS' STUFF

      It's your first chance to catch Broadway musical Peter Pan and an exhibit on superheroes at the Fair at the PNE. Held at the PNE.

      A family day at Marpole Oakridge Family Place features booths, face painting, a bike rodeo, and henna artists.

      At Steveston Park, kids can bring their teddy bears for activities like games, teddy-bear medical checkups, paw-reading fortune telling, and face painting.

       

      TAKE ACTION

      At the Grandview Calvary Baptist Church, you can hear and share stories of the Unist'ot'en Camp.

       

      ARTS ET CETERA

      The Vines Art Festival creates a platform for sharing and connecting through artistic creation in the outdoors. Held at Trout Lake Park.

       

      DANCE

      Kasandra Flamenco Ensemble presents two flamenco shows starring Kasandra "La China". Held at Presentation House Theatre.

       

      MUSIC

      Alison Nixon directs 140-voice choir Summer Chor in a performance of requiems by Fauré and Duruflé. Held at St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church.

      APPLAUSE! Musicals In Concert present Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart's stage musical The Boys From Syracuse at the Orpheum Annex.

       

      THEATRE

      Staircase Theatre presents the second annual installment of Movin' On Up at CBC Studio 700.

       

      MOVIES

      The Rio Theatre hosts the Coffee Film Festival, which features films like A Small Section of the World, A Film About Coffee, Aroma of Heaven, and Caffeinated.

      It's funny the disproportionate space, both physical and mental, attached to "Concerts." Importantly, this is not classical music, but "bands," e.g. popular music.
