Foo Fighters enlist Rick Astley in fight against Westboro Baptist Church

      Does God hate Rick Astley?

Probably, if you asked the Westboro Baptist Church. But whatever the case may be, the Foo Fighters are never going to give him up.

God could never hate this face.

The Fighters employed the Brit popster's meme classic to counter the hate-happy Westboro Baptist Church, who hold protests against LGBT people and allies, Jewish people, and politicians, and have either held or threatened to picket the funerals of celebrities, soldiers, and disaster victims.

The WBC, who spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about gay people more than gay people themselves do, held a protest at the Foo Fighters' Kansas City gig on August 21.

The reason for the hateful rally can be somewhat discerned from their convoluted press release peppered with an excessive use of all-caps, italics, and random font sizes (plus a smiley face) that it was due to Dave Grohl's support for same-sex marriage that dates back to the 1990s.

The band countered the protest by driving by in a truck and blasting out music. They started out with Green Day's "American Idiot" but switched to Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up". Drummer Taylor Hawkins held up a sign saying "You Got Rick Roll'd (Again)" while a hefty associate danced about in tighty-non-whities.

Fans stormed the truck, drowning out the WCB's hate-filled circle jerk, which consequently failed—yet again.

Grohl held up a sign that stated "Keep It Clean", a reference to the last time the Foo Fighters upstaged a Westboro protest against them. In 2011, the band also drove by the protestors but threw an impromptu concert on their flatbed truck, performing a song called "Keepin' It Clean" that included lyrics such as “Think I’m in the mood for some hot-man muffins”. Yum!

The WCB has held protests against other sinful musical acts, including Shania Twain, Lady Antebellum, Chicago, and Earth, Wind, and Fire. There's no word yet if Neil Diamond or Nana Mouskouri will be next.

In the meantime, love wins. And so does Rick Astley.

I don't agree with what they say, but God Bless the WBC for being some of the staunchest advocates for free speech alive today. They are heroes for not kowtowing to groupthink.
