Stuck in Surrey traffic? There's an official Twitter account for that
Tired of getting stuck in traffic snarls on Fraser Highway or Whalley Boulevard?
The City of Surrey has just the Twitter feed for you: @SurreyTraffic.
Here's the details from city hall's recent announcement:
Leveraging the City’s 250 traffic cameras located at key corridors throughout the City, commuters can now get Surrey specific traffic alerts on Twitter. The newly launched service will allow for real time updates that will help Twitter users navigate Surrey roads efficiently.
Surrey Traffic Alerts on Twitter will:
- Give safety alerts in real time
- Provide timely information about power outages at signalized intersections
- Once it is fixed, we provide an update
- Alert and update the commuter on Surrey roads
- Unlike other traffic twitter accounts, we focus on Surrey and nothing else
- Give reminders on road safety procedures
- Traffic alerts are tweeted out Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. from the Traffic Management Centre
Just don't check Twitter on your smartphone while you're behind the wheel, please.

Hello 'GS', you're awesome. I thought driving without any distractions between you and the road was enforced by law. Now, someone at the city of Surrey has decided a 'Twitter account' is exactly what we need, for hundreds of frustrated motorists on our busy highways.
