Rotten weather causes cancellation of outdoor movies

This has not been the ideal weekend to pull out a blanket, sit in a park, and watch your favourite film on a big screen.

With power outages still plaguing the Lower Mainland and intermittent rain, there have been several cancelled showings.

The Outdoor Movies in BC Twitter feed has reported that the scheduled screening of The Outsiders at the River District Drive-In has been postponed because of the rotten weather forecast.

Big Hero 6 is also cancelled at Confederation Park in Burnaby.

Last night's scheduled screening of Big Hero 6 at Point Grey's Trimble Park was postponed until September 11.

Outdoor movies were also cancelled yesterday at Surrey's Holland Park and Mission's Heritage Park.

On Friday (August 28), a screening of Finding Nemo was nixed at Katzie elementary school in Cloverdale.

Meanwhile, the power was still off in much of the swanky neighbourhood near the UBC's Point Grey campus.

Restaurants, shops, and even the library are closed on West 10th Avenue.

It's a similar story along parts of Dunbar Street. The lights were on, however, in the public library branch next to the still-open Dunbar Theatre. But the sign on the door said that the Dunbar library will remain closed until Tuesday (September 1).
