Canadian artist Wayne Ngan is the recipient of this year's B.C. Creative Achievement Award of Distinction.

Premier Christy Clark and British Columbia Achievement Foundation Chair Keith Mitchell announced the winners of the ninth annual awards for applied art and design today (October 29).

"The Creative Achievement Awards honour B.C. artists whose work is judged to be innovative, original and creative while having a practical function,” Mitchell said in a press release.

The Vancouver-born ceramicist, sculpturer, and painter, who maintains a studio on Hornby Island, has had his work exhibited around the world, from Taiwan’s National Palace Museum, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the National Gallery of Canada.

His most recent exhibition of work, Wayne Ngan: Traditional & Contemporary Pottery & Ink Paintings, was on display this summer at the Dr Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, along with a collaboration with dancer Andrea Nann in a project called INK.

In addition to Ngan, three artists were recognized with Carter Wosk Creative Achievement Awards for Applied Art and Design: Vancouver artist Stefanie Dueck for metalwork, Victoria jewellery maker Idar Bergseth, and Lisa Fraser of Surrey for industrial design.
