Queer words explained

Not sure what words like cisgender, homoflexible, and panphobia mean?

The latest e-newsletter from Qmunity includes a link to the resource centre's publication Queer Terminology: From A to Q. Put together by Qmunity staff and volunteers, it's a handy glossary of LGBT terms.

      Queer Terminology's introduction states:

Queer terminology is fluid and evolving; the appropriateness, meaning and impact of this language continually changes over time. We also acknowledge that power, privilege and oppression exist in the context of space and time and may be experienced differently by individuals.

Here's a couple definitions from the guide:

Ciscentrism: A system of attitudes, bias and discrimination in favour of cisgender identities that marginalizes and renders invisible trans* people and treats their needs and identities as less important than those of cisgender people.

Pansexual: An individual who is attracted to and may form sexual and romantic relationships with men, women, and people who identify outside the gender binary. Omnisexual is another term that can be used.
