Black Sabbath announce final tour, with Vancouver show February 3

Black Sabbath announced today that it will undertake its final tour next year, with shows that include a stop at Vancouver's Rogers Arena on February 3.

Some would argue that it's not the "real" Black Sabbath because it doesn't include original drummer Bill Ward, but you're still getting "singer" Ozzy Osbourne, bassist Geezer Butler, and--most importantly--guitarist Tony Iommi.

That's the same lineup that--along with drummer Tommy Clufetos--played Rogers Arena in August of 2013.

Newt - fans may not know that Tony Iommi credits a certain person/band for giving him the impetus for Sabbath to succeed. That person was Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Iommi auditioned for Tull and was asked to join the band. There he found out how much work it would take to create a successful band. Ah, as in showing up for practice at an eye-watering 8:00 am. He quit after a month but put his new found commitment to the craft to start Sabbath. File under interesting facts.

Funny/ironic: Tull won the first Grammy hard rock/metal award in (1988 or 89?), a dozen years before Sabbath won for the first time. Mind you, that first year combined the genres, but I still love hearing Metallica fans fume a quarter-century later.

The Tull / Eagles tale is interesting too...did the Eagles "lift" their best known tune Hotel California from Jethro Tull after touring with them? Check out Tull's "We Used To Know".

      Hmmm...Glen Frey will never tell.

      James:
Interesting point. The same one has been made of Led Zep's monster, Stairway to Heaven, after touring with Randy California and Spirit their first time in NA. The famous intro was obviously taken from "Taurus", and Plant and Page told California how much they loved it when they first heard it. A trust for his estate has taken them to court, and I believe it is still winding its way through the system.

Randy California...now there's an underrated guy.

Indeed. Learned a lot at Hendrix's feet, so to speak. Toured with him, and you can hear Jimi-style flourishes in some of his chord progressions on early Spirit.
