The sky over Vancouver may look a little dark today (September 3) but that’s hasn’t discouraged the park board enough to concede the city’s long and hot summer is finally over.

It was announced today the city is extending the season for the Kitsilano Pool by an extra week, through to Sunday, September 20.

"With its phenomenal views, Kits Pool has been a favourite summer destination for visitors and residents alike since opening in 1931," said Vancouver park board chair John Coupar quoted in a media release. “There's no place like it in Canada.”

The pool off Cornwall Avenue at the north end of Vine Street stretches 137 metres to make it the longest salt-water pool in North America. Last summer it saw an average of 1,400 visitors per day.

The release notes that other outdoor pools around Vancouver are closing for the season after Monday, September 7, as previously scheduled. Those include pools at Second Beach in Stanley Park, New Brighton Park, and Maple Grove Park.
