Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. set to debut lesbian character

Next week (November 12, to be exact) will see the first appearance of character Victoria Hand on the Marvel TV vehicle. Hand, an out lesbian who appears in comics as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who defected against head honcho Nick Fury, will make her debut in an episode entitled "The Hub".

Victoria Hand will be played by Saffron Burrows, whose other TV credits include stints on Law and Order: Criminal Intent and Boston Legal. But I'll always remember her for her role in Deep Blue Sea as the doctor who helped engineer a trio of super-intelligent sharks to further Alzheimer's research.

In a show in which sex hasn't come into play too much, save for Skye's interlude with her Rising Tide love interest, it will be interesting to see how much Hand's sexuality is explored. Hopefully, she'll make more than just the single appearance.

It should be interesting to see how the establishment portrays Victoria in this role. I hope to god they avoid the usual stereotypes of lesbians.

I just want the first appearance of credible danger and drama on this show! As a guy who is pretty much in the bag for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the mediocrity of this show has been an unwelcome correction to the mean.
