This Sunday (September 13, 4-10 p.m.), the Vancouver Festival of Ocean Films comes to the Vancity Theatre (1181 Seymour).

Through documentary screenings, the festival seeks to increase awareness about the importance of healthy oceans and their tangible impact on marine life, economies, and communities.

This year's documentaries (Thule Tuvalu, The Fisherman's Son, and The Breach) deal specifically with climate change, coastal conservation by a big-wave surfer, and depleting salmon runs.

Between matinee and evening screenings, event partner the Georgia Strait Alliance is holding a reception to celebrate 25 years of achievements.

Net profits of the event will help the Georgia Strait Alliance to protect and restore the marine environment, in addition to promoting the sustainability of the Georgia Strait.

Tickets for the Vancouver Festival of Ocean Films are $15, $12, and $10 and can be bought online in advance.
