S-M-R-T: Vancouver named seventh smartest North American city
Vancouver has been ranked as the seventh smartest city in North America.
This is according to Fast Company magazine, which undertakes an annual survey to determine which cities are intellectually ahead of their peers.
Cities were ranked in categories such as economy, living, smart people, and mobility.
Our fair city was praised for its greenest city initiative, a commitment to the expansion of open data, and its overall digital strategy.
Seattle was ranked number one overall, due to strong marks for a smart economy and smart government.
Vancouver ranked number one in terms of living and number two in regards to our eco-initiatives.
All cities listed were either Canadian or American, further supporting the fallacy that North America only has two countries.
(In reality, North America consists of 23 sovereign countries and 22 non-sovereign territories, which is super useful to remember the next time you end up at trivia night.)
The complete rankings:
1. Seattle
2. Boston (tie)
2. San Francisco (tie)
4. Washington D.C.
5. New York
6. Toronto
7. Vancouver
8. Portland
9. Chicago
10. Montreal
