      From the cutting-edge theatre of the Vancouver Fringe Festival to the indie-pop of Coeur de pirate, there's lots happening in Vancouver this weekend.

      FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

      Police: Ontario-based indie-rock band Tokyo Police Club (above) plays the Imperial, touring in support of latest release Forcefield, with guests Van Damsel.

      Patti: American soul-pop vocalist and actor Patti Labelle ("New Attitude", "On My Own") plays Hard Rock Casino Vancouver.

      Parisian: Paris music producer Onra (above) plays Fortune Sound Club, touring in support of latest release Fundamentals.

      Pasts: Hidden Pasts, Digital Futures at SFU Woodward's features the digital creations of Jeffrey Shaw, Sarah Kenderdine, Robert Lepage, and Stan Douglas.

      Pucks: the Vancouver Giants (above) take on the Kelowna Rockets in Western Hockey League action at Langley Events Centre.

      Pride: sex-advice columnist Dan Savage presents the Hump! Film Festival, representing the full spectrum of titillation and fetishes--gay, straight, and transgendered.

      SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19

      Bada$$: American rapper Joey Bada$$ (above) plays the Vogue Theatre, touring in support of debut release B4.DA.$$.

      Bathing: Portland indie-pop band Pure Bathing Culture plays Fortune Sound Club, touring in support of upcoming second album.

      Beatrice: Montreal indie-pop singer-songwriter Béatrice Martin, better known as Coeur de pirate (above), plays the Commodore Ballroom.

      Blues: Canadian blues icon Jim Byrnes plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests the Sojourners and Colleen Rennison.

      Boat: Melo Productions present an End of Summer Tropical Boat Cruise aboard the MV Britannia featuring dance music by Alibaba, Daddy Mikey, Earl da Pearl, and DJ El-Nino.

      Blackthorn: the Rogue Folk Club presents local Celtic ensemble (above) at St. James Hall, performing material from new album Open Skies.

      Barracuda: Heart tribute band performs alongside a Pat Benatar tribute band at New West's Columbia Theatre at a Cops for Cancer benefit.

      Backstage: explore the historic Commodore Ballroom (above) with a tour guided by entertainment historian and author Aaron Chapman.

      SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20

      Fringe: the final day of the Vancouver Fringe Festival features live, unjuried, uncensored theatre at various Vancouver venues. Performances include Do I Have to Do Everything My Fucking Self (above) at Granville Island's Performance Works.

      Fun: the final day of Playland offers the last change this year to try out the new ride the Beast, as well as old favourites like the wooden roller coaster.

      Fox: the Terry Fox Run takes place at Ceperly Park in Stanley Park, with proceeds to the Terry Fox Foundation, which funds cancer-research initiatives.

      Footsteps: walking tour presented by the Vancouver Heritage Foundation retraces South Asian history in Kitsilano.
