(Update [1:45 p.m.]: The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says the Dewdney Slough Bridge has not collapsed.

"An initial assessment by the ministry's bridge engineers has revealed that the top portion of one of the support piles on the eastbound side had weakened, and the bridge settled onto the strong section of the pile. There is no danger of the bridge collapsing," a news release says.

The ministry is informing the public that the bridge could be closed for a couple days.

"In the meantime, motorists should detour via Highway 1, using either Highway 11 via Mission from the west or Highway 9 via Agassiz from the east," the release advises.)

As Buffalo Springfield sang, "There's something happening here / But what it is ain't exactly clear."

However, it definitely sounds like the Dewdney Slough Bridge on Highway 7, near Mission, isn't having a good day.

At 10:10 a.m., DriveBC posted this update: "Dewdney Bridge Closed (8km East of Mission) for Bridge Repairs. Bridge Assessment in progress. Detour via Highway 1."

Terms like "sagging", "dip", and "crack" are being used to describe the state of the crossing.
