While Shall We Dance fundraiser turned the Scotiabank Dance Centre into a dance hotel, with six floors of performances, it was also like being served dance hors d'oeuvres.

At the September 12 event, attendees could wander around the centre from floor to floor to catch the brief performances that only lasted a a few minutes but were repeated throughout the night. The performers spanned an immense range of traditions, cultures, and genres, from modern to classical, from street to tap, from Asian to South American.

The brevity of the performances was a smart idea, as each performance gave a small taste of what each performer or group had to offer, whetting viewers' appetites to check out more in the future. The array gave audiences a sense of the diversity of dance in the city and a chance to sample a little bit of everything.
