Among movie buffs in the western world, Ang Lee is without doubt the best-known Taiwanese director.

The maker of such films as the Sense and Sensibility, The Ice Storm, Brokeback Mountain, and Life of Pi has won numerous awards, including Best Director at the 2013 Academy Awards.

Life of Pi also won for Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, and Best Special Effects.

But Lee is just one of many creative filmmakers from the East Asian island nation of 23 million.

A friend passed along this video, entitled A Memory to Remember, which was created by the Taiwan-based company Kingston Technology International.

It tells the true tale of a woman who would visit a London tube station to listen to announcements on the public-address system.

Check out the cinematography and editing in this short film (above). It was shot in Taiwan, even though it looks like it was made in the U.K.

Then there are those clever Taiwanese artists at Next Media Animation.

Below, you'll see their amusing take on all the possible theories behind the assassination of former U.S. president John F. Kennedy.
