      From the on-ice adventures of the Sedin Twins (above) to the artsy activities of B.C. Culture Days, there's lots happening in Vancouver this weekend.

      FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25

      CONNIE: the Rogue Folk Club presents Juno Award-winning folk singer and guitarist Connie Kaldor (above) at St. James Hall.

      COUNTRY: Canadian country artists Paul Brandt and Dean Brody coheadline the Abbotsford Centre on their Road Trip tour, with guest Lindi Ortega.

      CLASSICAL: the 31st season of Out For Lunch concerts opens at the VAG with Russian pianist Boris Konovalov performing works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Scherzo.

      COMEDY: Vancouver comedian Graham Clark (above) performs his show Graham Clark Reads the Phone Book at Hot Art Wet City Gallery.

      CULTURE: the three-day B.C. Culture Days kicks off, with free, hands-on, interactive art activities at various locations.

      CONGRESS: the Women's Visionary Congress at SFU Harbour Centre will open with a 30-minute presentation on cultural appropriation, with community discussion to follow.

      SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

      MARTY: American heavy-metal guitar hero Marty Friedman (above), formerly of Megadeth, plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Exmortus.

      MARLINdinner and dance at the Peretz Centre featuring music by the Marlin Ramazzini Band raises money for Guatemalan kids' projects.

      MILLER: goalie Ryan Miller and the Vancouver Canucks take on the Calgary Flames in Natonal Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

      MIRIAM: Bramwell Tovey leads violinist Miriam Fried (above) and the VSO in a season-opening program of music by Berlioz, Beethoven, Strauss, and Vivian Fung at the Orpheum.

      METAMORFEST: annual community festival at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House features live music, kids' activities and booths, zumba, laughter yoga, and a silent auction.

      MELODIOUS: Vancouver Opera presents Rigoletto (above), Verdi's opera about a lecherous duke and his hunchbacked court jester, at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

      SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27

      McFERRIN: Brooklyn-based producer and DJ Taylor McFerrin (above) plays Alexander in support of debut full-length album Early Riser, with guest Photay.

      MARTIN: American folk-rock singer-songwriter Martin Sexton plays the Imperial, performing tunes from latest album Mixtape of the Open Road.

      MASTERS: the Rogue Folk Club presents acoustic-guitar masters Don Ross and Jon Gomm (above) at St. James Hall.

      MONSOON: music by composer and vocalist Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan (above) is performed at Burnaby's Ismaili Centre for Monsoon in the City: Raags of the Rainy Season.

      MAXIMILIAN: Vancouver Recital Society opens its 2015-16 season with rising star German cellist Maximilian Hornung accompanied by Swiss pianist Benjamin Engeli. The program features a selection of pieces by Schumann, Beethoven, Janáček and Strauss.

      MID-AUTUMN: the family-oriented Mid-Autumn Moon Festival (above) at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden features musicians, magicians, tea artists, astronomers, storytellers, and moon cakes.
