Things to do in Vancouver this weekend, October 2 to 4

      From the acoustic-fingerstyle guitar artistry of Vancouver's Don Alder (above) to the tumultuous heavy-metal of Phoenix's Soufly, there's lots to hear in Vancouver this weekend. And plenty to see, too.

      FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2

      Tea: Canadian hard-rock trio the Tea Party (above), featuring singer-guitarist Jeff Martin, plays Hard Rock Casino Vancouver.

      Tattoos 'n' Tractors: American country artist Jason Aldean ("Tattoos on This Town", "Big Green Tractor") plays Rogers Arena, with guests Cole Swindell, Tyler Farr, and Dee Jay Silver.

      Terrific: Vancouver indie-soul band the Boom Booms (above) plays the Commodore, performing tunes from sophomore release Love Is Overdue, with guest Michael Bernard Fitzgerald.

      Tenors: Canadian vocal group the Tenors plays the Abbotsford Centre, touring in support of upcoming studio album Under One Sky.

      Terrifying: Potter's House of Horrors (above) opens in Surrey, featuring two haunted houses, The Ripper of Whitechapel (an unguided tour through the murderous lanes of 1800s England) and The Swampin' Slaughterhouse (an old-fashioned southern haunted mansion located deep in a thrill-filled Louisiana swamp.)

      Trio: the Lincoln Trio--violinist Yuel Yawney, cellist Heather Hay, and pianist Kinza Tyrrell--perform at BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts.

      SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3

      Titus: American indie-rock band Titus Andronicus (above) plays the Biltmore Cabaret, touring in support of latest album The Most Lamentable Tragedy, with guests Spider Bags and Baked.

      Tasty: Vancouver fingerstyle-guitar virtuoso Don Alder plays North Van's Bluedog Guitars, performing material from new CD Armed & Dangerous, with guests Adrian Bellue and Kris Schulz.

      Tobias: Vancouver-born pop singer-songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr. (above) plays the Rickshaw Theatre, performing tunes from debut album Goon, with guests Wet.

      Tom: Tom Konyves launches his book of poems Perfect Answers to Silent Questions at an event that also includes a reading by Carolyn Souiad.

      Twenty: 20 bands take part in FaceFest XX at the WISE Hall. Performers include the Rustic Sinners (above), Johnny Keen, Tarantula Head, Ketchy Shuby, Eddy D & the Sex Bombs, Stab'em in the Abdomen, the Rain and the Sidewalk, the Hay Dolls, Orchard Pinkish & His Horny Hands, Pill Squad, WackLatter, the Wasted Strays, Chopper and the Saucermen, Crummy, Evan Symons, Gnash Rambler, Wett Stilettos, Ford Pier Vengeance Trio, Gold Stars are for Suckers, and the Fabulous Rootabeggars.

      Take Action: march and rally at the Vancouver Public Library to draw attention to the crisis facing elephants and rhinos and to call for an end to the ivory and rhino-horn trade that is pushing them toward extinction.

      Tackle: the B.C. Lions (above) take on the Saskatchewan RoughRiders in Canadian Football League action at B.C. Place Stadium.

      Titillating: NSFW: Hip Hop Meets Striptease Vol. 13 at the Cobalt features performances by Little Miss Risk (above), Vixen Von Flex, Axis D’Evil, and hosts Villainy Loveless and Just Call Her Heather.

      SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4

      Tumultuous: Phoenix-based metal band Soulfly (above) plays the Rickshaw, touring in support of latest album Archangel, with guests Soilwork, Decapitated, Shattered Sun, Dead Asylum, and Pyramidion.

      Twinkly: Islands frontman Nick Diamonds plays the Cobalt, touring in support of latest solo release City of Quartz.

      T.O.: the Toronto Raptors (above) take on the L.A. Clippers in National Basketball Association action at Rogers Arena.

      Tianwa: Carlos Miguel Prieto conducts violinist Tianwa Yang and the VSO in a program of works by Beethoven, Paganini, and Bach at the Orpheum.

      Trot: the CIBC Run for the Cure (above) at Concord Pacific Place run raises money for breast-cancer research, education, and advocacy.
