Have yourself a wasteful little Christmas

How much garbage will you create this holiday season? According to Zero Waste Canada, we will each throw out an average of 110 pounds of trash.

In a Christmas newsletter, the non-profit says Canadians will buy:

• 4.3 million turkeys
• 3,000 tonnes of foil
• 2.6 billion greeting cards
• 27.8 million natural Christmas trees
• 7.3 million artificial trees
• 6 million rolls of tape
• 250,000 tonnes of plastic packaging

Zero Waste is urging Canadians to do some "reducing and rejoicing" during the holidays. Its newsletter offers several tips for "rethinking Christmas".
