Harry Potter takes to the stage

Get ready, muggles, because the theatre world is set to get a little more magical with help from a play about the early life of the Boy Who Lived, Harry Potter.

The Guardian reports that the play, which should see production in 2015, would tell "the previously untold story of Harry Potter's early years as an orphan and outcast".

Presumably, this would mean that the Dursleys (the repulsive relatives with whom Potter spends his childhood) would also appear. I'm picturing something like Annie, but with less Sandy and more steaming pile of Dudley.

How much magic will come into play remains in question, as the story would take place before Potter realizes that magic, wizards, and witches are, in fact, real.

This news comes hot on the heels of the announcement that a movie based on the fictional Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is already being developed.

In an statement made earlier this year, author J.K. Rowling said that "although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards, where I was so happy for 17 years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world."
