Carly Rae Jepsen tweets that she'll be playing Cinderella on Broadway

      B.C.'s pop star Carly Rae Jepsen will soon perform as one of the world's most famous princesses in New York.

      Carly Rae Jepsen, who hails from Mission, will take on the role of Cinderella beginning on February 4.

      Jepsen tweeted the news today.

      Best known for the hit single "Call Me Maybe", she will replace Laura Osnes in the title role in the Rodgers + Hammerstein version on Broadway.

      Jepsen also tweeted: "@LauraOsnes I think you are truly lovely. Big shoes to fill! It's an honour to try on Cindy's shoes! Xoxox"

      The former star of The Nanny TV series, Fran Drescher, will play opposite Jepsen as Cinderella's wicked stepmother in the musical.

      Isn't this the kind of thing you do when you are a has-been? But she has not even accomplished enough to be a has-been! I guess she sees the writing on the wall and is taking the shortcut to has-been land.
