The Vancouver premiere of Danse Lhasa Danse takes place at UBC’s Chan Centre for the Performing Arts (6265 Crescent Road) on Saturday (January 18) at 8 p.m. as part of the Push International Performing Arts Festival. This multidisciplinary performance created by Pierre-Paul Savoie of PPS Danse pays tribute to the life and work of Montreal-based singer-songwriter Lhasa de Sela.

“I have personally been moved by Lhasa’s music over the years, particularly after seeing her perform live,” Joyce Hinton, co-managing director of the Chan Centre, stated in a news release. “I applaud Pierre-Paul’s commitment to extending Lhasa’s luminous career trajectory posthumously through the development of Danse Lhasa Danse.”

Danse Lhasa Danse has been performed throughout Quebec. The piece features seven dancers, four singers, and five instrumentalists on stage.

Tickets to Danse Lhasa Danse start at $36 and can be purchased online or in person at the Chan Centre’s box office. Savoie will host a pre-show talk, free for ticketholders.
